It feels like it’s been forever. You want something to happen now. Frustration is mounting. You’ve tried everything, attended all the business and self-help courses, read every book, listened to every CD on how to make more money. And yet you’re still waiting for the results to appear in your bank account. It feels like nothing will ever work and you’re about to give up.
Sound like you? If you’re reading this, then you haven’t given up or given in. You are still hopeful that the answer is out there. Part of you knows that there is something you haven’t tried. You’re a smart person, you have had some successes, maybe not to the level you’re capable of, or feel that you deserve. What if all the answers were inside of you, ready to be revealed? Just waiting to be explored.
Let’s start with why things haven’t worked so far. Yes, it’d be more fun to skip ahead to the solution part, and we will get there quickly. But first we must take an honest look at what’s not working. This may sound far-fetched or over-simplified at first, so agree just for a moment to consider the possibility that you’re not earning what you’re worth because of your thoughts and beliefs. Before you disagree, and of course you can do just that, think about it for a minute. You’re smart, you’re educated, you’ve come up with brilliant ideas, and taken some risks. Since you’ve read the books and studied the giants of your industry, it simply can’t be about some skill or trait that you’re missing. It’s got to be something else.
Now you may be reflecting on your patterns of thought and your beliefs around wealth and success. Maybe nothing stands out in your mind as a red flag. You generally think positively and truly just want more. You don’t see how your thoughts and beliefs could possibly be the problem. Look deeper, go back through your life and recall how your parents felt about money. How was it addressed in your house? What’s your earliest memory about money? Was there always enough? Did your parents argue and worry about money? How did your family feel about rich people? Were you raised to believe that you had to work hard for money?
My first money memory occurred when I was in kindergarten. My mom heard me talking on the phone with a girl from school and when I hung up, mom was very angry with me. I was so confused as to why. All I had said was that my dad was “broke”. I didn’t even know what that meant, I was just repeating what I had overheard my parents say! They admonished me for sharing our money problems with anyone.
Maybe now you’ve started to recall how you were conditioned and raised to believe certain things about money and success. It may be difficult to imagine that those childhood experiences may be what’s halting the flow of money to you. Since you’ve already tried just about everything else and still aren’t getting the results you want, it’s time to do something different.
So, now what? Time for years of therapy or the monotonous recitation of affirmations to eliminate these stale old memories? More books to pour through or courses to attend? It’s way quicker and simpler than that. Stay with me now…first it’s simply about some old memories and beliefs, now the answers are simple too? Yes indeed.
